6.1.3 Windows 11 Installation Methods

Learn the different ways to install Windows 11 on a system with Windows 10 already installed.

There are steps you need to follow when upgrading from Win10 to Win11.

Verify System Compatibility

Ensure that the system's hardware is compatible with Windows 11.

Download the Installation Assistant (Method 1)

Microsoft freely provides a program called the Windows 11 Installation Assistant. It has one dependency, the PC Health Check app. Running a check using the PC Health Check app verifies whether the system meets the minimum hardware requirements of Windows 11.

Once PC Health Check has verified that everything is good to go, you can begin downloading Windows 11. When the download is complete, the Installation Assistant will ask the user when they want to restart to complete the installation.

Download the Media Creation Tool (Method 2)

Microsoft also provides a tool that'll flash Windows onto a connected USB to create a bootable USB. From there, follow the steps provided by the installation GUI.

Download the Windows 11 .iso File (Method 3: Advanced)

Downloads the .iso file containing all the files needed to install Windows 11. You can create a bootable drive just like in Method 2 or burn the OS onto a CD, which you can then use to install Windows 11 on (usually) older systems.
