3.3.5 Install a Motherboard
Learn the steps to take when installing a motherboard into a PC system.
Steps:
- Install the CPU and RAM modules before installing the motherboard into the PC case.
- Choose on whether you want to install the power supply after installing the motherboard, depending on how much space you have.
- Install the I/O shield onto the motherboard, pressing it into the I/O shield port on the case.
- Install standoff screws in the positions that match the motherboard.
- Slide the motherboard into the I/O shield using it's matching ports, placing the
- Screw the motherboard into the standoff screws using motherboard screws, which have a finer thread than most other screws. Remember not to overtighten!
- Connect the power supply by finding the ATX power plug and attaching it to the ATX power connector. (24 pin connector, match latch with latch on motherboard port)
- Locate the 4-pin or 8-pin auxiliary CPU connector and attach it to the motherboard.
- Connect the front panel connectors to the motherboard, which include:
- Power Button
- Power LED
- Reset Button
- Hard Drive LED
- Speaker
- USB Wires
these are special for some reason. most motherboards have all the USB connectors as a single plug.- for motherboards that DON'T do that for some reason:
- find the 4-pin connector with the wires that are labeled VCC, USB2- and USB2+, along with a ground wire
- match up the VCC wire with pin 1 on the header
- match up the second ground wire and connect it to pin 5
- repeat this process for any additional USB wires ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ Don't forget to refer to the motherboard manual, which defines each header and what component connects to it.
- Install the hard drives and optical drives for the expansion board.
