3.2.3 USB Connectors
Learn the different types of connectors used in USB cables.
The connector doesn't affect the speed, its determined by the standard that the USB cable uses.
USB Type A
The standard connector on 99% of all desktop PC and (older) laptops. Blue tab indicates its capable of USB 3.0 speeds, but colors aren't consistent throughout manufacturers.
USB Type B
Largest connector, designed to carry both data and power. Fund in printers, scanners, external hard drives, modems, network hubs, and MORE!
USB Mini B (miniUSB)
Small, deprecated connector used on portable devices like digital cameras and some types of cell phones.
USB Micro B (microUSB)
Widely used connector, smaller and the replacement of the USB Mini B.
USB Type C
The GOAT! Latest standard connector with reversible connectors so no arguing with the connector receptacle about which side of the plug goes up. Designed to withstand 10,000 insertion and removal cycles
