  • Can be connected wirelessly, wire, or via an Ethernet cable.

Shared

  • Connects directly to a computer and is shared on the network the computer is connected to.
  • The host computer acts as the print server, and must be turned on for the printer to be accessible to the other computers on the network.

Network

  • All computers can access a network printer as it is a standard network resource.
  • Network printers have their own IP addresses for accessibility.
  • The printer can be connected to a network print server, or it might have it's own built into the printer.
  • Network administrators configure the wireless printer or the wireless print server to be accessible over Wi-Fi.
    • The print server manages the print jobs, allowing all users in the network to use the network printer simultaneously.
    • Configure the network to recognize any connected wireless print servers as special devices that computers can send print jobs to.

Cloud/Remote

  • Also called a web-enabled printer.
  • Detached printer from a computer system, and is remotely accessible from outside a network through the Internet via a browser or email address.
