3.8.5 Built in System Diagnostics
Learn to use system diagnostic tools that can help diagnose hardware issues on computers.
Offline Diagnostic Tools
Can be found on the one-time boot menu of a system. Won't connect to the Internet. Run the tool, capture found errors (and their error codes) and then use the documentation of the errors found on the manufacturers website to figure out the issue.
Online Diagnostic Tools
Same thing as offline, but it uses the Internet that can provide automated fixes or generate direct links to replacement parts. It can also run a quick test, which checks for errors with the:
- processor
- hard disk drive
- memory
- optical drive
Full tests do the same thing, but also run a stress test on the hardware. It takes a LOT longer, about 40 minutes. You can also run a custom component test, which lets you select which hardware component to test.
