3.11.7 Install a Video Card

Learn the steps you should take when installing a new video card.

The process is as simple as installing an expansion card, as most video cards use the PCIe x16 expansion bus.

Configure BIOS/UEFI

Before you can install a video card, you need to enter the PCs BIOS settings and set it to send graphical data to the card installed in the PCIe x16 slot instead of sending it to the integrated graphics chip already installed.

Ensure Component Compatibility

Check if the video card you want to install is compatible with the actual slots on the motherboard.

Also make sure that your video board (whatever that is) supports your video card, and that your system's cooling can support the buttload of extra heat the video card will generate.

Video Card Install

For this, follow the guide on how to install expansion cards.

Driver Install

Install any required drivers your video card needs to to provide full functionality. After that, you're done!
