A security policy that dictates how an employee is permitted to use company property.

Items that can be listed under company property can include, but are not limited to:

• computer equipment
• computer data storage
• company Internet access
• company-provided email

An AUP policy can also specify who has access to use company resources, a set of restrictions on personal use of Internet, email, and storage at the workplace, and which browsers, applications, and hardware platforms are supported by the organization's network.
