Wifi 5 only works in the 5 GHz band. 2.4 GHz support only works for mixed modes like 802.11b/g/n. The aim for Wifi 5 was to reach Gigabit Ethernet and better.

Wifi 5 supports better channel bonding (up to 80 to 160 MHz channels), up to 8 spatial streams, and denser modulation. It's so great that it's actually VHT, standing for very high throughput.
