DLP automates the discovery and classification of data types and enforce rules so that data is not viewed or transferred without proper authorization. DLP uses three main components:

• a policy server
• an endpoint agent
• a network agent

Content Scanning

DLP agents scan content in structure formats or unstructured formats (e.g. a database or a random Word document, respectively) using a file cracking process to render it in a consistently scannable format.
